Obama officially wins in Alaska

JUNEAU -- Presidential candidate Barack Obama has been declared the official winner of Alaska's Democratic caucus.

he Alaska Democratic Party said Wednesday that Obama collected 75 percent of Alaska's Super Tuesday delegates from the record turnout of nearly 9,000 people statewide.

Hillary Clinton received nearly 25 percent of the delegates from last week's caucus.

The state party will next select 13 delegates for the Democratic National Convention. This gets done during its state convention May 23-25 in Palmer.

The state also has five "super delegates," one of whom gets elected at the state convention.

These people also attend the summer's national convention, giving the state 18 total delegates in this tightly contested national race.
